Nadya Fedotova was born in 1992, in Moscow. She lived in Sochi until 2008. She studied animation at VGIK's Animation Directing Department. Now she is student of SCHOOL STUDIO SHAR.

"Pain" is a Nadya Fedotova’s end-of-year college work. When the director started to shoot the film, there was no script nor plot. There was just an idea to make a film about her hypochondria, to present this state visually. Nadya wanted to use graphics and show the main character’s inner state without any words – she suspects different diseases and figuratively falls apart. Nadya Fedotova shot the film on her own, so she did not need any script or detailed storyboards. She began to weave the narration from the image of the found character. She was a melancholic girl, drawn in a thin line of ballpoint pen. The character's plasticity, her image and character dictated her history. Eventually a man entered the film, and the plot evolved in a different way than the artist expected. The film turned out to be not so much about the hypochondria, but rather about relationships, the complexity of mutual understanding, and about love in general.

Nadya Fedotova did not have to choose the right technique. She is an artist, and she needed to feel the material, to work with her hands, so the film is drawn on a tracing paper. It is a time-lapse animation, which Nadya Fedotova painted herself completely, digitally correcting only colours and contrast.

The exhibition presents sketches and animation phases from the film.
