Then he was involved in a Parallel Cinema group, where in 1996 he made his first film “Chicks of the Sea” in traditional technique for this group – scratching on celluloid 35mm films. In 1999 his second film "Koly" was selected for Berlinale Competition and others International festivals. It was awarded by the Grand Prix of the "Kinoshok" festival. In 2000 the films "Chicks of the Sea" and "Coly" were purchased by the Cinema Museum in Amsterdam.

Boris Kazakov experiments a lot with non-camera animation, as well as traditional animation.

Sasha was shot as an episode of the concert film 'You Just Want to Know' directed by Oleg Flyangolts. Boris Kazakov made animation for the film, and directed and drew an episode – music video for the song 'Sasha'. Frame-by-frame animation which follows the style of Victor Tsoy drawings, was executed in marker and pen on small post-in notes. The fans of Viktor Tsoy and animation loved the film instantly, it was a lot quoted online as a self-sufficient work.

The film was shot with the assistance of Boris Kazakov's wife and colleague, artist Marina Alekseeva.
